RegEdit Safety

It is a good idea to save a Registry key before you make a change to it. To do this, click Start, Run, and type "regedit"

then press Enter. When RegEdit opens, navigate to the key you intend to change and choose Registry, Export Registry File. Give the file a name and click Save. For example, let's say you're about to make a modification to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\CursorBlinkRate

Before you make the change, click the CursorBlinkRate key and choose File, Export. Choose a location and name for the exported registry branch (or choose All, in the Export range area, and get your entire Registry). Click the Save button. Now you can make the changes you need and reimport the old settings if things don't go well.
